An architectural model maker builds scale models of buildings drafted by architects necessary for obtaining practical information for building detailing or massing in relation to its surroundings.
Scale Model makers shall interpret architects’ drawings into actual miniature reproductions. Models constructed are to specific scales and the materials used imitate the proposed building materials.
Architectural model makers shall construct different types of models to depict particular features of the building. These include block models, semi-detailed or working models, fully detailed models, and interior models, depending on the Client’s and/or Project requirements.
Scale Model Makers shall create models of proposed construction projects using various materials such as wood and plastic. They shall use blueprints, drawings, and/or CAD designs/SKP Models to create models according to established specifications.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma; Graduate of a vocational course in Drafting
At least 2 years prior experience to the related field
Proficient in CAD and Sketch Up
Can operate the laser cutter
Able to work with materials such as plaster, wood, metal, clay, plastic, cardboard, acrylic, resin, etc.
Able to use hand tools, electronic equipment, and techniques such as making and casting molds, laser cutting, soldering, and lighting
Knowledgeable with 3d modeling processes from a simple sketch to a full-blown three-dimensional piece.
